punching and cutting leather

Postby buffybubba » July 26th, 2016, 12:13 pm

I am a prospective buyer. I'm interested in using the punching tool to punch sewing holes in leather, instead of hand punching with a diamond chisel punch. Also cutting the pieces for my products. I make leather bags, totes, journals. I use primarily 5-6 oz. leathers, veg tan, chome tanned, chromexcel.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Here is a conversation about cutting leather which may help you a little. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2095&p=43215&hilit=leather+dog+collars#p43215

Also be sure to watch the video on www.silverbulletcutters.com

There is also a video under Broadcasts here on the forum about embossing and cutting leather. I am not sure anyone has tried punching it. Hopefully someone who has will share their experience.

Be sure to call Sherri and talk with her if you have not done so already.

Thank you Gigi. I got lucky and got Sheri on the phone. However, she wasn't aware of anyone punching holes. She said if they weren't slammed she could test it, good for her!

Sherri is always happy to test cut materials and I agree - I cannot think of anyone who has talked about punching holes in leather. Will be eager to hear the results!
