I find the stickyness of the mat depends on the type of paper I'm using. If I'm using computer paper, for testing, it sticks a lot. Even using a spatula that paper sticks to the mat. If I'm using card stock, it adheres much better with the sticky mat, but also removes well using a spatula. If you are new, you may not have any old mats, but once you start using different mats, you can dedicate one to things you don't want to be on too sticky of a mat. If you have bought a SB after using another machine, you could use an old mat from the other machine that isn't so sticky, as long as it is a size that will fit your machine.
