Print & Cut Digi Images with Inkscape/Signcut

CAGigi — I think you may be onto something — when I first started this I did it GAZ's way, then saw Penny's tute — now I'm going to try something else quickly. I'm going back to the drawing board to the beginning & I will report back here later :)

Hope you get it to work, Whizzy. I'm no help whatsoever, as I don't use Signcut, but I'm rooting for you.

Whizzy -

I so hope something I said helped. If you want my written instructions I would be happy to send them - I needed both the video and the written (and Dawn) to get it down - and it seems easy now but I still forget those darned registration marks if I let some time pass between doing the PNCs.

My fingers are crossed - lmk how it all works. Happy to look at the file if that would be of any help!

Can you email me your file and also the screenshot of Signcut? I want to check a few things but I can't see them well enough in the image

Okay - what is happening is your registration marks are associated with the "Root layer" that is fine - that is how they are in the template. I would leave those alone. Then you have 2 other layers. One layer, which you referred to as the shadow layer, is the layer that has the cut line/shape on it. The second layer is the layer with the raster (jpeg, png, bmp, etc) image on it. The raster image and the cut line/shape should be lined up. When you print it out, close the eyeball on the layer with the cut line/shapes on it. When it prints out, it will print out the raster image with the registration marks on the corners.

Now go back to inkscape, turn the eyeball on for the layer with the cut line/shape that you just turned off. Now close the eyeball of the layer with the raster image on it. All you will see on the screen is the four registration marks and the cut line/shape. This is what you export to SignCut.

In Signcut, make sure that mm is selected. If it is not this, click the button that has the measurements on it to change it to mm (it will say inch, mm, cm, etc and is located under neath the picture of the cutting machine with an A on it). Now go to your program settings (Settings>Settings) and make sure that the registration mark size is set to 10 and 3-point registration is checked.

Realistically, it would be best to send/attach the file. :-) I hope that helps clarify a little of what is going on!

Sorry Tyler, but no part of the template should be in the root layer - that is an error in the template that we have overlooked, and you have my apologies for it.
They should be copied and pasted into a layer in a new doc and then save that as the registration file.

Looking at the picture also, it looks the the laser is behind the registration mark. But it is far enough right. Could that also cause a problem.

THAT WAS IT,DAWN with Monica's files!!! LOL - sorry for yelling but that was the reason I had problems with her cuts and what you pointed out to me that neither of us could remember!! :ROFLMBO:

It was the root layer and I think "most" (have not checked all) open in Inkscape in the root layer so watch for that when you open Monica's and then copy into a new doc as Dawn also said! LOL

Thank you so much for accidentally reminding me of the problem with Monica's files in Inkscape - as I recall it would cut some but not all of it and that was the cause. And it's because you designs in AutoCad as Lisa pointed out so I guess it doesn't convert "cleanly" to an svg.

Thanks Dawn for helping - yet again!

That could be a problem, but it would show up straight away cos the laser wouldn't move to the reg marks...

LOL - not senility - you just have a lot on your mind!

That is the line I use and I am sticking to it! Hope Whizzy will have success now!

Well Since I am older than both you Gigi and Dawn, I think I get to have the senior moments first.

Problem solved!
My calibration settings had changed from X -17.5 & Y 23 to X -175.00 & Y 230.00 — don't know why, let alone how . . . I have now completed my first print & cut — viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1392&p=32428#p32428
Doing the happy dance :)

It might have happened if you switched between measurement units - sometimes that can confuse it.
So glad you are sorted though!
