How to cut around printed text

How to cut around printed text

Postby Passingpatsysnotes » July 18th, 2012, 12:10 pm

hi All
I am looking to print text onto cardstock that I then plan to cut a circle around them. The end result would be wine glass charm cards with words printed around the border. My printer cannot print on round stock so I need to cut the circles AFTER the printing. Are blackcats capable of cutting shapes in specific areas of cardstock? Any directions would be very much appreciated.
thank you!

yes you can do Print and cut with various software Scal 3 and inkscape to sign cut and and a few others .
We design in the program of choice and using that program print from it and we have registration marks to help line up we then place this on our mats place the laser settings and the cut the circles. very easy process
Helping where I can when I can.

You can also use a pen tool to write with the machine, and then cut your circles around the writing. It is really cool to do that with glitter or gel pens.

Hello

Would you say which software you are using since it makes a difference . So I use inkscape with signcut - however you may use scal or something else.

Also do you want to create a mat layer - that is text with a mat shaped in a similar way or just circle /scallop /square - it simply a process and will be happy to show how

Let me know and I can make a quick video which may help

Pandora, when you say a mat layer, do you mean a shadow layer behind the words?

Yes - i think ooh err - not at my home computer so dont have any files to show - basically for many words I create a mat or shadow layer that is the same text shape but slightly bigger than the original text - if fact you can create several layers which is a nice effect if you are into layers on cards

It is quite simple once you get the idea - I have a partly made video for someone else on how to do it - just wanted to check which software is being used since there will be slight differences -

usually i design in Inkscape since i find it so versitile and then import into any other programme. Since i am a very visual learner I find watching/creating videos easier than trying to fit in every step on paper. Very guilty of skipping steps that are written then wondering why it doesnt work

Pandora - I use Inkscape/signcut. Then I also inport into MTC and SCAL3. I think those are the main software versions other than Illustrator and those higher end programs that someone here uses.
