What wold you use to stick cardstock to wood?

Postby kathybessey » December 13th, 2011, 8:54 pm

I am making a recipe box (and recipe cards) for my youngest daughter for Christmas. I have the recipe box painted and now want to adhere some cardstock to it. What would you all suggest using? I have Yes paste (thank you Penny D!), ATC Gun, Mod Podge, and of course Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive, or can go purchase something else if necessary. I plan on spraying it all with a clear sealer once it is all adhered (haven't bought that yet either).

I would use YES paste. I don't like Mod Podge as it sort of crinkles up when I use it. That is just my opinion.

My first thought was the Yes past Mary. I haven't used the mod podge much so figured I better get some opinions. The one time I used mod podge I was not happy with it but it could have been the person using it and not the product lol. Thanks Mary

I seriously doubt it was the person! Mod Podge can cause me lots of grief! I have never been able to apply a "smooth" layer! Then it all bunches up!

If you have a piece of the paper you are using, try gluing a small piece to another piece of paper, using the YES paste. You will be able to see if it wrinkles or not before you paste it on the box. I have never had YES past wrinkle, but I have not used it a whole lot.

Not sure if you have any, but if you have the double sided adhesive sheets, those work great too!

Nope Tyler I don't have any of those (another thing on my list of things to try). Mary - I haven't had Yes paste wrinkle on me either but the same as you I have not used it a lot. Good idea on trying it with this paper first though :) Thanks to you both!

I would try the Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive... I have used that on a number of things and it works well. But you have to be fast, or only glue part of the paper, put that on, then lift and glue the other side, instead of trying to do it all at once.

Personally, I love Mod Podge, and would use that, but since you say you don't like it, then I wasn't going to mention it. I have never had a problem with Mod Podge making cardstock wrinkle. It may wrinkle lighter weight scrapbook type paper, but with card stock, I haven't had any problems. It would also depend on how large your paper is that you are sticking to the box. It may be easier to work with smaller pieces than one with large piece, if that is possible with your design.

Do you apply it on the underside or just brush it over the top of the paper to what you are attaching it to.

Glossy or matte accents or Diamond glaze or something of that nature works well also. Can go under and over the paper.

Suzan, You can brush the MP onto the backside of the paper AND the item you are putting it on. Then use a brayer to make sure the paper is in full contact with your item. Usually wrinkles are caused because there are spots where the paper didn't adhere well. Or you can put the MP on the item you want to put the paper on, get the paper a little wet, don't soak it, but just damp, and then put the paper on your item. Again use a brayer to make sure that it is adhered well to the item you are putting it on and you don't have any air bubbles.

Here is a video for how to use Mod Podge and not have bubbles or wrinkles.

The Medium made by Wendy Veechi (sp) is a glue and so are some that are art supplies just like it. Some of them stay softer and are more workable. I think this is what Tim Holtz uses sometimes too.

I used the Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive and it worked fantastic! I appreciate the info on MP Diane, I will keep that in mind and try it on another project soon. I need to stamp the papers on the recipe box now and then I can seal it and then finish decorating it. Now to figure out where to get some nice recipe cards.
