Cutting Foam?

Cutting Foam?

Postby ursulasmith » November 2nd, 2011, 2:53 pm

Hi all! I am not sure whether this is the correct category for my question, but here goes... Has anyone tried to cut the fun foam, like the kids use, on the Cougar? I like making stamps with it, and with the Cougar I would have a lot more flexibility with my designs! I am thinking I would need the deeper blade and need to tape down the foam like the chipboard directions indicate. Any thoughts, tips?

You can try but I would recommend not having the pinch wheels go across it as you cut, and you might have to make more than pass.

Make sure you use a long 60 plus blade, tape it down just to be sure it doesn't move, and like Suzan said, make sure your pinch wheels are not running over the foam.

I have.
Tape the foam down and make sure mat is plenty sticky.
Use the 60 plus blade and keep your speed at 10 to 20. One pass will cut fine

Thanks all! I will give it a try and report back. Just curious, tho- can you cut without the pinch rollers? What would those do, mar the foam?

Just make sure the rollers are rolling on the mat and not on the foam. They have to be engaged for the mat to move.

Well, hey now- that is just about the coolest thing ever!! With all your tips, I set up the long blade, taped the foam to the mat, used only 2 pf the pinch roolers, set up for a knife point cut and voila! First time, the foam cut like a dream! I chose 20mm speed and 80 for force. It cut like buttah ;) Thanks again!

awwwww man! wish i had seen this sooner - i am making a little craft kit with fun foam to go in pezza's goodies bags at her party sunday but i don't have that 60 long blade. i figured i would cut them with sizzix dies. the black cat would be SO much more flexible

Great thing to know. I always hated cutting that stuff with scissors...it never cut pretty.
