Learning Inkscape

Learning Inkscape

Postby Angel135612 » August 16th, 2011, 8:54 pm

I had they day off today, so wanted to spend some time learning more about Inkscape. I went through some of the tutorials that Dawn has on the BC UK forum. I am just amazing myself at what I was able to do today. LOL I picked up a few things from different people trying to learn one thing or another, but it is all starting to come together in HOW to do things now. I worked on a couple of files... I haven't tried to cut them yet, and I'm sure they need (more than) a little tweaking to be good cut files... but I'm still impressed with myself. :ROFLMBO: :ROFLMBO:

I was having so much fun actually getting a file that would work. Most of the time, I would start working on something, and it was taking too long, or not turning out the way I thought it should and I would just close the program and not save anything. (Usually because I didn't know HOW to do something, and I was making it too hard on myself). But today, it all started to come together. I'm sure there are some things that I could have done, like grouping small parts, so that they would be easier to work with. And I may need to work on combining different parts, so there aren't a lot of little pieces that would need to be glued together. But learning some of the tricks of Inkscape, and how and when to use them, made it a whole lot easier. Now if I could just draw my own designs, or find someone that draws, that wanted to work with me, I could make my own cut files.

I'm not going to share the files.. since they are copyrighted images, and I haven't tested them yet to cut and put together... but I was just so excited about being able to do it, I just had to share.

Oh good, you make it sound like I could learn it. I really do need to spend some time learning. I did watch Tyler's tutorial/webinar and picked up a few things. It is putting it in practice that I need to do work on so that I will remember it. Thanks for sharing!!!!f You give me HOPE.

That is what I always tell people with either inkscape or illustrator. It is just a mass of stuff and then 1 little thing happens and it all starts to click together. Isn't it a wonderful feeling.

Diane - you did a great job! Bravo!!

That's how I felt when I actually traced an image in Inkscape thanks to Penny and Dawn and reading a lot. There is so much great info out there but finding the time is the challenge.

Wow - never even thought about adding color to an image the way you did - just do it for the cut pieces.

I am inspired - we can DO this! Love love love what you did!

Well done and it took me a long time before it clicked for me. At first I felt like I was learning a new language and in parts of it I still am. MTC clicked with me right away but Inkscape does so much more. I use them both but I am trying to go further with Inkscape again. Sometimes I think I can't do something and trying to do it I learn something better. It is a surprise software. I really envy the ones it comes easy to.

Yay Diane. Great job. I finally was able to do PNC using Inkscape and Signcut (which does a beautiful job) just having some issues with Signcut (Mac version) that I'm waiting on a fix for. Let us know how it cuts.

I'm struggling with Inkscape myself but it hasn't come together for me yet. I'm still in the very frustrated stage. It's good to hear from others that it can be done. I hope to post on here soon that I'm starting to get it.

Good luck,
Barbara

I promise one Barbara, something just one little thing will click, and boom you will be off and running. I think starting to learn the software and just all the terms, nodes, bezier, path, and so on are like learning a whole new language. LOL.
