Ok so someone share, do you put them in a file, and install when using them or what. How does that work. I would love to move most of my fonts somewhere. Pretty please what is the process?

That's what I do Suzan......I have a separate folder Labeled Fonts....I actually have them on an external hard drive and just install them when I'm wanting to use them....

I use a font manager most of the time, so i keep them in a separate folder and use the font manager to temporarily install them

I do the same as Dawn. I use Amp Font Viewer. I keep my uninstalled fonts in a separate folder and temporarily install one when I need it. The more fonts you have installed, the longer it takes for a program that uses fonts to open because it has to load all those fonts.

But, you do have to temporarily re-install the font if you edit the document. Otherwise, it will substitute one that is permanently installed on your computer.

I use a different font manager but basically the same thing. I have all of my fonts from Creating Keepsake, Provo Craft, Lettering Delights,Wingdings/Doodlebats, in separate folders so they are easy to find, and they are uninstalled in my font program. I have tried to put the others in categories like decorative, cursive, printing, chunky etc- but have a ton that are just in one big folder on an external drive, waiting for me to pay attention to them!

I just checked and only have 475 installed - I think that is a record for me - used to have thousands installed and boy did it slow things down. There are a few that I default to when making cards that I leave installed, but the rest are just sitting...waiting.

I think it's hard to love card making or scrapbooking and not love fonts - they seem to go hand in hand!

((I think Sherri is talking about me in the above post!! ROFL))
I use Printer's Apprentice (I paid about $15 us for it) I found that the free programs that I tried were lacking in one area or another so I finally broke down and bought one, I used to have more that the 20,000 (give or take) but I recently went through them and deleted some that I really just did not like. I do have a few more in my wish list over at Lettering Delights and I subscribe to a font group on yahoo. Oh and Thanks for all of the welcomes! I am very glad to be here!!

I throw mine into a folder called downloaded fonts. Then I view them in AMP Font Viewer to decide which one I will install or temp install in MTC.

I have a tutorial for AMP on my website here:

Me Too Dana,

I was a super good girl and actually moved most of my fonts last night into a font folder. I don't have a lot but now I can get more. And AMP is good.

Thank you all.

I never can figure out which ones I can delete and which ones I had better leave alone. You know, the ones I downloaded, I can 'mostly' identify, but I can't tell whether some program installed some fonts that I should leave installed for the programs to function properly. I would rather have the minimum installed and load 'em up temporarily as I need them. I just didn't know at all what I was doing early on, and was too scared to change anything. Now, I feel lots more confident about deleting, and less afraid to crash, etc. But, I don't want to make any of my programs disabled. But I don't know what that bare minimum consists of. Any advice on how I should go about this now?

Trisha -

I have a list somewhere :) of fonts you need to leave on the computer (the basic operating fonts) - will try to look for that list later and see if I can find it. I know I have it saved - the question is where!!

That would be awesome GiGi, Also I found last night, it wouldn't let me delete some of the fonts I moved. That is in windows seven. Quite a pain, tell me when will I type in Arabic, or hebrew, or chinese.

I have used AMP fontview in the past, but I downloaded Nexus fonts last week and I really like the feel of that - a much better user interface in my opinion.
