Do I need Signcut?

I have the engraving tool in my shopping cart. Now do I need to also get the Signcut software? I have read that MTC can't handle the intricate files like Penny did. I also don't know how to use Inkscape but willing to learn :) Soooo...do I need this software to use the engraving tool to its maximum potential? And if it's not inappropriate to ask, could someone tell the cost of Signcut? Thanks so much for your help. I'll bet you're all wishing now I had just stayed a lurker!! lol I have too many questions! lol

I would wait for signcut. See if MTC can handle what you are doing first. For most peoples needs, it works great!

No questions are very good, that is how we learn. Tyler is right see if MTC will handle it. And Dawn can give you the prices for signcut. I think I know them but I would hate to be wrong.

Trust me I have had mine over 2 years now, I am still learning, which is good, I haven't outgrown it's capabilities, it still entertains me quite a bit.

Signcut Craft is £70
Signcut Pro is £229.99, but I will soon be putting it on offer at £160

If you want to do fill engraving you will need sign cut I would think. I tried doing it in mtc and it didn't work. MTC nor SCAL can handle it.

Here's a link for converting Rach. http://www.x-rates.com/calculator.html
It looks like as of today, 1 British pound = $1.60 U.S.
70 pounds = $112 U.S.
229.99 pounds = $367.98
160 pounds = $256

Someone asked in another thread if the new software will be able to handle a 12x12 engraving fill. Dawn replied
"It will eventually but probably not for some considerable time.
12 x 12 with an engraving fill is an enormous file, will most of it be filled or just some areas?"
So I'm kind of on the fence too about whether or not to get Signcut. Gonna take Tyler's advice and wait to see if MTC will handle whatever I decide to do with engraving. I really need some tuts for the engraving!!

I would just wait for now - if you need it, it isn't like you need to wait for shipping since it deals with downloads and license keys.

We can do tuts or show it in the webinar - it is really simple! The difference between the two versions is the length you can cut. The cheaper limits you to a 24 inch length I believe. The width is as large as your machine. The Pro version has unlimited length. Both are the same software. If you are only getting it for engraving, go with the crafters (cheaper) version since I doubt anyone will be doing a 3 foot long engraving...

...I just had a brilliant idea!! lol

I was the one asking Dawn about the new BC Software, because I didn't want to get Signcut when BC software is coming out soon, but I know that MTC won't handle all the engraving files that I want to do. So far, it has handled the small ones, but it takes a long time....a very long time. The file the Tyler did for me in Inkscape and then brought into MTC worked so much faster and was a larger inmage and had closer engraving lines. It wasn't the three way cross hatch that Rachellann did, but it did a gorgeous job, but it is a different effect the the triple cross hatch.

I'm waiting before I get Signcut...mainly because at the rate I learn, the BC software may be in its 15th upgrade and will do all that Signcut can do. :D But if I find a file to engrave that I just have to have (and I am looking for a large one for my sunroom), then I will go ahead and purchase it. My artwork is more beautiful to me and a lot less expensive than some of the galleries.
