Has anyone actually used this to cut leather?

Postby The Dawg Club » February 10th, 2012, 1:22 pm

I make leather dog collars. I also put names on them by cutting letters out of leather. Just wondering if anyone has used the machine for leather. Thanks in advance!

Yes, I have used leather.
It cuts extremely well depending on the density and thickness.
It also embosses well if it is the hard leather that is too dense to cut

Thank-you very much! I was just looking thru your website. :) I use garment weight leather. Nothing too thick. I have been printing letters on paper, cutting them, then stick and cut out the leather. This machine would be sooooo helpful! Guess I gotta buy and try...

Thanks again...MALIK

It was a very stiff thick dense leather, the sort you see dogs collars made of.
I soaked it in water for an hour to soften it and then used the smallest embossing tip on it.
Once it dried the embossing was permanent and very effective.

OH WOW!!!! That is just awesome... not that I do anything with leather, but it just boggles my mind all the different media we can use, and what we can do with these machines. Every time I see something like this it just reinforces the fact that I made the right decision on which machine to buy.

I would be so happy if the Black Cat Cougar could cut out leather for me! It will save me so much time.

Wow, what a great job you do on those collars. I've never cut leather either but just wanted to comment on the beautiful work you do.

Well im going to buy a machine from you asap. Can you possibly tell me all the other accessories I will need to do my project? And possibly total cost? Post or pm. It will be shipped to Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Thanks in advance!

Also...I would gladly make you a couple collars if this machine can cut these letters out!! :D

Am i correct in assuming that infact some of the leather you are using it quite abit thinner than what the main collar is made from and are some of them layered thiner leather than others. from the photos is just appears the the letters are thinner is why I am asking . I would say it should have no trouble cutting thru as I cut some thick hard plastic for a fellow for model houses and use a 45 degree blade and go slower at the cutting speed , Make sure your leather is firmly attached to the mat and I would also tape it down around the edge to the mat it may take a couple passes but it sure beats having to cut that all by hand.
Helping where I can when I can.
