Grinding noise

Grinding noise

Postby ShirleyG » October 10th, 2011, 6:16 pm

Last night I turned on my machine and when loading the mat, I got a very strange grinding sound. When moved it to the left or right, the sound was back to normal.
Any one else experience this? I have the 18" and got it about April.
I'm afraid I might damage it unit if I keep cutting on it.
Thanks.

Do you still get it tonight? Was there any tension on the mat that would keep it from moving?

Tyler, No visible tension. It cuts well, just makes the noise going from front to back when loading the mat and cutting. Left to right is ok.

What happens if you use the backwards and forwards arrows offline without the mat in? Does it still make the noise?

When using the backwards and forwards arrows offline, there is NO noise, only when the mat is there. I'm using only a Cougar mat. I've tested all the rollers and they all make the sound when in the down position.

Can you put a piece of cardstock in without the mat and try moving that back and forward?
I am very puzzled why it makes a noise with a mat and not without

I tried it with the cardstock. Still makes a noise but not as much. Left to right no problem.

A coup-le of questions from tech support -

Does it make a noise if the cutter is off and the mat is 'pulled' manually back and forth when the pinch wheels are down?

Also, when power is on, hold the mat at the front and try to stop it from moving back when the back arrow is pressed, is the noise worse?

I pulled the mat through manually back and forth with all three pinch wheels down. No noise.
Power on - holding mat - no noise.

When I all three pinch wheels when loading the mat - no noise. When I use two pinch wheels the right one is making the noise when it is in this position: second red square from the right. I've been pulling the mat back and forth and it seems to be a little quieter.
