BETA Version of MTC 4.0 Available to Download

BETA Version of MTC 4.0 Available to Download

Postby MeFlick » September 11th, 2011, 9:07 am

For those of you that use MTC, I gather that Andy has posted a new BETA release of Version 4.0 to download. You can find the link and info. on it here at this thread on the MTC forum:

http://forum.make-the-cut.com/discussion/18845/p1

It lists all the things he has added etc. in that post so I won't list them all here but a couple of key highlights are:

* create custom mats any size you want!
* resizing textures simplified
* Node Editing Tools
* Drawing Freehand Lines and Bezier Curves
* Eraser Tool and Knife Tool

To name just a few things listed! Remember though - This is a BETA version and Bryan said not to share any files created with it until it becomes an official release!

I haven't tried it yet - just saw the post and wanted to share with the MTC users here that might not have seen it! (I saw it from Julie's Yahoo Group where Bryan posted about it and went to see and then came right here!) Now - off to download it and to try to do some of the Crop Challenges!
Go Vols!

I was happily sitting in bed today watching the Webinar with the new features when I was invaded by family. I still would rather node edit in Inkscape probably because it is the way I know already but there is some good stuff in there. Now I will have to download the Webinar to see the rest.

I think this is great that Andy is adding all these features to the program. For those that are still intimidated by Inkscape, it will be great for them to be able to do some node editing. And I love the fact that we can now create a mat the same size as our BC mats.. so we will know exactly where something is going to cut. Can't wait to play with all the new features.

I have been using SCAL mostly because I'm on a Mac but I downloaded the new version on my Windows laptop to get reacquainted with MTC and I'm really liking the new features. I am wondering why SCAL is not trying to keep up with MTC even though they have had the node editing for quite some time but very few updates.

SCAL is busy working with sizzix on the eclips machine, that is why...........I love sizzix embossing folders and their dies, and I was very lucky to get a big shot pro (intended for quilting). However, I am not sure how good that eclips thing will be, and I am so happy to have the cougar. The more I work with the cougar, the more I am convinced I will never ever have to have any more cutting machines. I have downloaded the 4.0 beta, but have not installed yet, as I understand some users are having trouble with when they close a file, the program crashes. So I think I am going to wait for the next beta on 4.0...the custom mat looks really great, and once that comes out in more stable version, I will re-visit using the cougar plugin for WYSIWYG cutting. Up to now, I have been using knifepoint/KNK plugin..

I did not know that about SCAL, so they are teaming up with Sizzix like Andy teamed up with KNK? I haven't had any problems with loading files on the new MTC yet but I haven't tried to cut anything. I will definitely not be buying the eclips, I've bought my last cutter and that's the Cougar.

I wondered the same thing, but she's in Austratia, so it was on live in the morning for her. I joined in at 11:30, so I can't wait to watch more of what they showed.

I got in at the tail end of the webinar also.. I'm sure Bryan is going to be working on getting that posted as quickly as possible. I can't wait to see how to use some of the neat tools in the new version.

Sorry, I just found this post. Someone put a post up saying the webinar is on now. So off I went. I got to watch about 20 minutes before the relative invasion. So I hope it is up to download soon.

Has anybody tried to put in a custom mat? I tried and I goofed and I can't delete them...reloaded the update...the custom mats disappeared...but I did a test and I can't delete them...so I put the question on the MTC forum...so far no luck they just tell me to select and delete...but that doesn't work....bummer....

fairwayflunkie - can you tell us step by step "What" you are doing in trying to delete them? I went in and made a couple and then was able to delete them. You have to "select" the mat you wish to delete so that mat is chosen, then simply hit the "delete" key on your keyboard and you should get a popup window that asks if you are sure you want to delete that mat and then you say yes to confirm the action then they should be gone. Please tell us exactly what you are doing if they are not getting deleted.

MeFlick...yes I select and hit delete and nothing happens...I am fairly computer literate...so I know how to do it, but it just won't work...I'm running MTC in parallels on a Mac.

When I reloaded the update the custom mats disappeared...I made one called test and tried to delete it and it won't do it...I'll check the MTC forum this morning and see if they have any answers for me...maybe I'll just buy SCAL for Mac *sigh*

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and learn inkscape and signcut...how bad can it be eh? I've got the password *I think* in my e-mail from Dawn and it came with the cutter so I'll try it tonight...will report back with my efforts to do print and cut with that combination....

Nancy -

Like anything, there is a learning curve with Inkscape and Signcut, but it's pretty step by step. I have written directions based on Penny's video and Dawn's information (blended the two) if you would like me to send those to you.

Wishing you luck! It's fun once you get it all lined up and it works!
