Silver Bullet 24" cutting bigger, help needed, please!

Postby NSimon » July 2nd, 2020, 3:15 am

Hi Everyone,

I hope someone could help.

We have a Silver Bullet 24" as our smaller machine just gave up a couple of days ago.
So we plugged in the new one and started to cut.
We bring in our templates from Inkscape (in the menu --> preferences shows this set up as well), everything is the same as with our previous machine.
For some reason this new one cuts slightly wider. The height is correct but the width isn't.
Also, noticed that the curcle cuts are not correct either, when it supposed to meet with the starting point there is a little tear, slightly goes next to the starting point.
Our previous machine was cutting spot on and don't really understand why this one can't do the same with the same set ups.

We use 60 degree blade, settings are .25 and 1.
Nothing has been change.

Thank you for your time and any advice would be highly appreciated!

It looks like you have the settings correct as far as I can tell and are using Inkscape as the importing preference, right? Are you on a MAC or a PC? Is your mat new so there is no sticking in previous cuts. On occasion I have seen users change the overcut as suggested on another forum, to .3 You can try that and see if it helps the circle. If not go back to the .25 is that is what we recommend.

I recall this coming up a year or so ago with someone making templates. You can search the forum as he developed a work around. In the meantime I will see if there is anything else I can add. This is not something that comes up often at all. Thanks for your patience.

Thank you for your reply.

Not sure what happened as no settings or templates have been changed, just the machine has been swapped.
The same settings were spot on with our previous one.

Tried the .3 but still had the same results and our templates are still cutting wider on the x axis, seems fine on the y.

UPDATE: Since you have already talked with Sherri about this, I will back out of trying to resolve the issue. You already asked the best person. I defer to her.

BTW, where was your machine purchased and how old is it? I know it was a "second" machine but am unclear as to where and when it was purchased. Thank you.

We purchased it in 2016 or the begining of '17 from Thyme Machines.
It has not been used since.

Well that could be part of the problem as well. These machines do not do well just sitting. They are meant to be used, and as with any electronic machine, they are not happy sitting unused and we do find that things degrade when they are left sitting. I hope that is not the problem as you will need to track Dawn down if that is the case, but hoping the advice Sherri gave you will be helpful. Please let us know.

I see. That would be a shame.
Talked to Tony, he has no idea what could be the problem, he suggested to join the Facebook group and post there.

Looking forward to see if there is any soultion and I'll post and update.

So we have been advised to try sofware update which does not solved the issue.
Still same setting, materials, blade as before.
Disappointed as our previous machine was so good, we have used it for 5 years on a daily basis (not for DIY projects) and the newer one just not seems to perform the same way. It still looks brand new as it was kept in our studio, very responsive but can't get the precision cuts perfect.

We don't believe it is the machine, but the software. Reach out to Brandon, the software developer. I would contact Brandon. His email is brandon@craftedge.com or info@craftedge.com. We believe the issue is it an issue between Inkscape and the software. Did you answer if you are on a MAC or PC? Don't remember seeing that but I could have missed it. There also seem to be ongoing issues with those on a MAC. Again - a software issue. Please keep us posted. Thank you.

SOLUTION FIND!

After a few days/ emails we have find the solution.
We got in touch with the SCAL's sofware developers and they sent us a very helpful email, which I copy here just in case if someone has the same problem as we had.

GIGI! Thank you for the email address and your time!

'If you go through the menus on the SilverBullet cutter, there are
settings to change the scale

Increase Yp Scale: If the actual cutting scale is smaller than the image
size from Y position, press this button will increase the size.

Decrease Yp Scale: If the actual cutting scale is larger than the image
size from Y position, press this button will decrease the size

Increase Xp Scale: If actual cutting size is smaller than the image
size, press this button will increase the size.

Decrease Xp Scale: If actual cutting size is larger than the image size,
press this button will decrease the size.

Sincerely
- The Craft Edge Team'
