standard for cutting vinyl?

Is there a basic guide for cutting thin vinyl as far as force needed so it only cuts the vinyl and not the backing?

There is no "set it at this" because even with the setting tool , each machine and user is unique. It varies depending on how far your blade is protruding, the type of vinyl, etc. Also cutting vinyl on a mat (which I do because I mainly do smaller pieces) can be different than cutting straight off the roll. We have people cutting "normal" vinyl anywhere from a force of 2 to 30. (I cut regular vinyl on a mat at 20, but the Duck brand I need almost 40 because it is thicker). Use the test button - it should be your best friend when determining the proper force, and then keep a log when you get the clean cut that goes through the vinyl but not the backing. Trial and error with the test cut is the best teacher.
