Cutting mat thickness

Cutting mat thickness

Postby pixynoxy » March 19th, 2013, 11:42 am

Hello

I plan to buy Silver Bullet 24" machine and I am wondering will I be able to use cutting mats that I already own.
They are Warrior brand mats with thickness of 3 mm (about 1/8 inch).
They are three (or five, I'm not sure) layer mats with 1mm (1/25 inch) hard PVC core sandwiched with 1 mm soft pvc on the both sides of the mat.
I have several of these mats, unused, from another project and if they could be used as Silver Bullet cutting mats it would be great.
I plan to apply low stick glue on them myself.

Here is the link to the product:

As I understand, Silver bullet mats are thinner than 3 mm. Will Silver Bullet have problems using thicker mat? Can it harm the machine?

Thank you

You will love the 24" Silver Bullet.

It is not recommended to use the thicker mat that you speak of. Will it damage the machine? Probably not. But the machine will work harder to pull that thickness through and it will be really hard on the pinch wheels. It will stress the springs on the pinch wheels. Again it is not recommended.
None of these machines were designed to put a thicker material in - they were designed to cut vinyl.

Once you use the Silver Bullet mat you will be hooked.
