Challenge #1 - Flower Ribbon Card - By CeCe

This is a simple ribbon card. I made a template for a simple flower that you will “thread” ribbon through to make the flower. The pink flower part and the leaf stem uses 7/8” ribbon, and the flower stem uses ¼” ribbon.

First cut out the rectangle with the flower template. Using whatever ribbon you like first thread the small ribbon through the stem. I cut my ribbon generously, as it has a tendency to unravel making it necessary to keep trimming the ends. I also cut this ribbon at an angle to make it easier to thread through the slots. Next thread the leaves and then the flower. I glued down the ribbon on the back side of the card to keep it in place.

The back side of the flower is not pretty, so cut out a matching piece of cardstock to cover this part of the card. I used this same cardstock on the front to accentuate the “Happy Birthday”. The “Happy Birthday” was done using the Print and Cut method.

I included a dashed fold line that I recommend cutting at low force so as to make a score line, not a cut line.

I did not complete the inside of the card as this one will be for my sister, and I don’t quite know what I want to say yet!

And here are the files in both MTC and SVG formats

I love the woven ribbon idea! I am assuming that any message, and card size format etc. is ok?

Yes, any message. If you use the file I offered though, you would have to resize to use for a smaller card.

Great... and Love the hint about using low force to make a score for a fold
I have been wondering how to do it.
- I tried a dashed cut line... but it did not work

Yes - that works great. I always change the color of the fold line (if it's not already different!) and just lower the speed WAY down - it works great.

And Kathy - that file is too cute - what a great idea!

What a cute flower :0)
I have not done anything like this before...so I am eager to try it out.

When you are talking about creating a score line...I take it you are not changing the blade? Which holder are you using? Sorry I super new...and have no clue...LOL..but I can rhyme :0)
Thank you

You don't change the blade to create the score line, you just decrease the cutting pressure.

Hi Heather -

No apology necessary - all questions are good ones!

I don't think it matters which holder you are using and no you don't need to change the blade (well I don't). I just lower the pressure with whatever blade I am using and it works like a charm. Until you get the feel for how low to go (see I can rhyme too! LOL) you might want to test cut to be sure you aren't still going to cut through the paper - I learned that the hard way the first few times!! :ROFLMBO: :ROFLMBO: :banghead: :hide:

Some also use the engraver blade to score, but I am too lazy to change a blade unless I have to!! :hide:

Have fun!

:banghead: :banghead: I just saved a post instead of posting it.... :banghead: LOL..I guess I will figure out where they go :0)

So...I said that I was lazy too...so you should scoot over under your chair :hide: :ROFLMBO: :ROFLMBO:

Good to know. I will try the scoring out :0)

I am laughing at CeCe's chastising because I was going to set the record straight when I got home from work but she already beat me to it :)

I am anxious to try this one but not tonight! Tonight I have to start designing my ATC LOL
