Double Dutch Card - By Suzan

Well as a lot of you know I am not a card maker. I have just started with cards and it is a very challenging thing for me to do.

So now I have a challenge for you. You may replicate this card or be super creative and make your own using the Double Dutch Fold Template. As part of this challenge you have to do something you haven't done before. With my card the things I had never done before was using stamp inks and I printed my pictures and then burned the edges to give it an aged look. I also hand wrote my saying on the inside of my card. Plus the picture of the sailing ship I edited in Photoshop to give it a not so new look. I have to say that once I got going and the ideas popped into my head it was fun and fairly easy.

I have included an SVG template for the card with score lines and the pictures I used for the card.

Have fun

Oh, I have been wanting to try this card. Your's is so cool, Suzan. I love all of your vintage elements. Thanks for challenging us to try a new technique!

You are welcome. I actually didn't get the whole layout in my brain until 7 last night. I had the base done, 2 weeks ago.

I purchased sign cut with my kitty...and then bought MTC. I couldn't figure out the sign cut. I am sure that is because I have mainly used Silhouette Studio (that came with my sd). I tend to do a lot of bringing in images and tracing them to create my own cut lines.

So...if anyone knows of a tutorial of how to create a cut line in inskape...and then how to cut it in signcut..just tell me where to go :0).

I have played around with image programs or ones using pixels...and not line programs...so I will just have to do some more learning :0)

Thank you!! I am sure I will be asking all kinds of questions.

Heather -

There are tons of inkscape tutorials on Dawn's BC UK Forum and also many on the internet. And I believe there will be more tutorials on inkscape and Signcut in the Learning Center in the near future.

There are so many options - I started out using Inkscape and Signcut and am now doing a lot more in Corel Draw now that I figured out how to successfully do a print and cut there! (still taking baby steps!!) And I think Suzan uses Illustrator - so there are tons of options - whatever makes you comfortable. Personally I absolutely love Signcut - it is very user friendly once you get the hang of it, and I think the learning curve is short on that. Whatever makes you feel the most comfortable is the best software for you. If you mainly like to do print and cuts, you might want to try Inkscape since it's free and tracing an image in Inkscape is very easy. Penny has a great video tutorial on it - then use Signcut to cut it once you have it calibrated. If you need help holler - there are plenty of people successfully doing print and cuts in a wide variety of programs.

I have figured out the PNC with MTC. But I am pretty sure I could do more with the inskape program. I use GIMP a lot. I am sure that I could use Inskape..once I see it done once :0)

:hide: I don't know who Penny is :hide:
I will follow the yellow brick road to Penny's house...if someone just shows me where the yellow brick road is :hide:

Thank you!!

I am going to go and post my first project in the Masterpiece thread.... :D I feel I need an Award for just getting my machine calibrated for PNC :ROFLMBO:
Thank you!!

I'm not sure I am supposed to post this here but I had to take the picture today because this is going in the batch for OWH today. The only thing I tried that was different was making this style of card. In case you can't read it the inside says, "I only have eyes for you!" I have to give credit for the peacock to LKCdesigns, you can find it here http://thealliancetrader.blogspot.com/2 ... story.html. I am going to try a few of the other challenges but not today!

Yep Jan this is where you should post it. Each card you complete should be posted in the challenge it is for. I love your take on the card and the peacock is beautiful!

Sorry about the horrible picture. An old boss stopped by today and stayed for three hours, not exactly what I had planned.
