Well finally -here is my box. The file is from SVG Cuts - it was a different way to make a box and not sure I would do it again - or at least would do it differently, but live and learn!! (doing a lot of learning the hard way lately!!)

Thanks Steph - fun challenge.

Would love to know which box set that came from, and what you would do differently. I have a few of their boxes, but haven't made many of them yet, so would welcome any tips on them.

Thanks

Ummm - that was from Big Boutique Boxes - it was the small one of the three. Does that help?

The down side is that there are no instructions so for someone like me who doesnt make boxes all the time I had to really think about it and still am not sure I did it right. And I probably would have cut the top sides out the same color as the top, but again - had no visual concept of it.

Am sure it's just me, but I thought the construction was difficult - the bottom and top were just flat squares - the sides had tabs that connected to the bottom or top and each side - so it was tricky to get together and all of the sides are tabbed together - and you either have the tabs showing on the bottom of the box or inside of the box. If I did it again I might cut two of the bottom and top to sandwich the tabs so they don't show - maybe! Not sure that helps, but remember, this is from someone who never made a box until a month or so ago!! :ROFLMBO: :ROFLMBO:

Thanks Diane - and everyone else. It was fun and a total fluke that some of the ribbon I had was practically a perfect match for the top -love when that happens!! LOL

I have that set, and made one of the octagon boxes, just to see what it would look like and how it would go together.

I like the set, because the sides are a separate file, instead of all one, so you can make a huge box if you wanted to, and put each piece on a different paper, instead of it all having to fit on one.
I didn't care for the tabs showing either, but unless the file had the top and sides, and bottom and sides as all one piece, there would be tabs. Then you would be limited to how large a box you can make based on what you can fit on your paper. So for me, I will deal with the tabs to have the option to make larger boxes.

I also thought about making a lining, to put on the bottom and top to at least hide the tabs there. And if I could think of a way to do it for the sides, then not only would it hide the tabs, but it would help strengthen the box. But then it would use twice the amount of paper.

I always have a hard time making any 3D project, I guess I just need to do more of them, and they will get easier, like anything else.

I like that you used different paper for the top and sides...I thought you may have just taken a square of paper and guled it to the top to make it different. I think I may have to make some more of these boxes and have some fun decorating them. Just don't know what I would use them for just yet.

All good points Diane - it was just different than I am used to - and I am a creature of habit! LOL And I am spoiled by the boxes that so many make here - they all fit together so beautifully and the pieced join together nicely which also adds to the strength of the box - they seem sturdier. This feels flimsy and it's just not pretty on the inside. But I would use different papers so the tabs match the cardstock - or might try making an inside just to have it look more finished - could just use textweight paper and it would only take one sheet...... will think about that!

Thanks for a different perspective!

Gigi - mention it to Leo at svg cuts - if it is a file that people will be paying for, instructions for assembly should be provided. I personally would not purchase a complicated file without a separate .pdf for instructions, or at least some sort of video reference for assembly.

Thanks Jeannette -

And good point, Pat. I already have an email to him because one of the files I d/l is empty - the pdf is there but the cutting folder file is empty - even though it appears to have something in it - strange. I really wanted to do that today for a challenge - had two ideas I wanted to try! Figures........

Will make that suggestion about the box - just not my favorite assembly - and the pieces were not marked as to what went with the top and what went with the bottom on all of the files - so had to keep referring to the picture to figure it out. Maybe I am just high maintenance (be nice those of you who would be so tempted to jump on that comment!! - you know who you are!!) :ROFLMBO: :ROFLMBO:

Whooh...I just made it in time! Here is a stationary box that I made and I changed it to look like a little house. I'll have more details on my blog tomorrow and I'll share my MTC file for those that may want to make it. I had tons of photos but condensed it to these and added them into a video. Seemed easier that way. Thanks for looking! Thanks StephP for the great challenge!

MTC file to share on my blog http://cutbyconnie.blogspot.com/2011/07/stationary-box.html...
