Just when things looked good for Travis.

Just when things looked good for Travis.

Postby rachellann » August 9th, 2013, 6:30 pm

Let me start by saying I thought I would save time and gas by going to his pediatric Dr. to have them take a quick look Travis foot, his big toe on his left foot has a big split on it well they gave him antibiotics and said take him to the local foot Dr. ok and they mad the appointment, well that was for two weeks later, in the mean time just wrap it and keep and eye on it, So I think well maybe I am over reacting. Well we show up at the foot Dr. and first thing out of his mouth was surgery for fusing the bones in his foot not even paying close attention to his toe, he then cuts away some tissue this making the toe even worse looking wraps it with triple antibiotic and sends us home to came back in two weeks. again was not feeling the warm and fuzzy with this Dr. I was not happy when a couple of days went by and the side of his toe is now just as bad looking as the top ok back to the foot Dr. this time he started talking about wanting to do a skin graft on the toe there was no way this could be done I knew this as the toe was is worse shape not better. so left their office and Called his Orthopedic Dr. we went to day and Man he was hot and called the foot Dr. while still in the room and basically called him incompetent and Asked him what his plan was. Well you guessed it he told the Ortho Dr. what I basically told them what his plan was. Well we set through a rough appointment and now Travis has a cast up to his knee because of his leg structure, and has to have it checked in two weeks yep cast will come off toe examined and cleaned again and another cast on for two more weeks. The hope is the toe will start to heal but we have to face the fact because of the foot Dr. Travis may loose his toe we are waiting and very upset at the Dr. here in our Home town. Travis took the news ok but I can see he is terrified of the possibility of the toe may not survive. Sorry long winded.

OMG!!! Poor Travis! What was that dr. thinking? I'm surprised you haven't gotten a piece of him. LOL. Well, I guess there is still time. My prayers for the toe and for Travis too. Poor baby....he is having a rough time of it.

Oh my goodness. This is just not right. It is so hard anymore to get great doctors. What do they do just push them out the door from medical school. Praying Rachel that it heals and heals correctly. Can't even imagine.

Thank you all. We have him up on the couch tonight because getting him up and down stairs are a pain darn heavy plaster with fiberglass overlay. They did put a walking rubber sole on the bottom but it is so heavy and hard for him to move and try and use his walker it is unbelievable poor kid does not have the strength in his hips and leg to make it work. I am not done with letting the other Dr off so easy as I will be calling their office on Monday and filing a complain with the hospital board here.

So sorry to hear this about Travis... I hope that he heals completely, and that the Foot Dr gets what is coming to him for not paying attention to what was happening with his toe.

We are so lucky here in the Akron/Cleveland area to have many great doctors and great hospitals plus an outstanding Children's hospital, I am appalled when I hear some of the stuff that goes on elsewhere. Your little guy has been through a lot but it sounds like he remains pretty upbeat about it all. I hope you all get some resolution soon and he starts to feel better.

Well two weeks in the cast they placed and tomorrow is when we go back to the doctors to see what we have to deal with I have been praying real hard to let the toe be better. I just in my heart fear that it might not be you all know that mothers instinct that tells you to not hope for to much and that is where I am at right now. will let you all know the out come after we get back as it sounds like it is going to be a long day there as they have also scheduled another appointment for when we are up there so we can save a trip.
