Kathy is right. We have so many parrots that people try to smuggle out of Australia, fines are huge with jail time. They drug them and put them in socks in a suitcase. Many don't make the trip. A parrot we can buy here for $500.00 goes for $20,000.00 in the USA so that is why they keep trying to smuggle them. It is cruel and I haven't done what Kathy has but I did raise one baby parrot that got blown out of a tree. The shelter was full near me so they taught me how to do it and still keep it a wild bird until they had a space to take over. I had it for 2 months and it is hard to not get attached but it is selfish to get attached. I loved it but I never let it know I did. That is another reason why most of our pets are rescue pets. Everyone should shop at a shelter first and you will find the cutest things there.
