Checking on Suzan - huge power outage in So CA

Just want to be sure you are ok.

I am assuming you guys heard what happened in AZ and So CA Thursday - at 3:30 we lost power. Sure that happens at times, but they initially said we would not have it back until Friday night - at best. It just came back on here about a half hour ago but it was freaky and has never happened like this before. Some maintenance worker, supposedly, in ARIZONA was doing some routine work and he didn't follow the safeguards, so he set off something that instead of just shutting down the power in Yuma, AZ, it set off a chain reaction that shut off power all over Southern CA and parts of Mexico (not sure how or why Mexico is on our power grid!!) Over three million people were without power and this was the hottest day of the year, so I can only imagine how unbearable it was for Suzan in the desert because it was awful here. Just glad it is slowly coming back on. Some areas of So CA may not get it back until later today -it's coming on in little sections and they are asking everyone to conserve as San Onofre shut down as a precaution (automatic). It was pretty freaky for most of us who are not used to power blackouts that last more than an hour or two. They said this was unprecedented in this area.

So - Suzan - please let us know if you have power and are ok - Iggy too (know you are in CA but not sure where).

umm not sure but I got a PM from her yesterday afternoon so I'm assuming she had power. She didn't say anything about it.

Nope we are fine, never lost power in fact I am just hearing about it on the news this morning. It is weird though we were having power issues last we because our main breaker was old. Glad you have power back GiGi.

Apparently from what I caught on the news this morning, the people that lost power were Imperial water and power. We are Southern California Edison. So we were very fortunate. Last night at 10 it was still 100 degrees.

Glad I don't live in the desert... 100 at 10 PM... too hot for me. I'll take the cold in the winter over the heat in the summer any time. Can always put on more clothes to stay warm, but you can only take off so much to get cool.

Glad to hear every one is doing okay and hope every one gets their power back quickly.

So glad you didn't lose power - the report we got was that you did. It was 90 here - hottest day we have had this summer but at least it cooled off as the night crept in! Was just very freaky to be so cut off for so long....

Part of the valley lost power, the east end, Coachella, Indio, La Quinta, Indian Wells, and such, but we didn't.

It is just ridiculous really that there are not better precautions in place for our power. I am glad that you have your power back Gigi, and Suzan, glad that you never lost your power. 100 at 10 PM does NOT sound fun. Of course, it's a dry heat isn't it? :ROFLMBO:

I was good... Southern California Edison as well. We never lost power. Some friends just on the other side of the main road however as well as the local schools were on San Diego Gas and Electric and were in the dark from yesterday afternoon until who knows when... (except the schools got power again and sent out automatic calls at 6:50am saying they were open for business)
Thankfully it was also much cooler today which really helped on energy conservation.

I spoke too soon... my power is out now. Went down about 10 minutes ago. So I'll sign out and conserve laptop battery... Take care all!

I am! Apparently it was a scheduled outage so Edison could replace some old equipment... I just don't recall any notification about it.
