Help importing

Postby cjchasse » March 16th, 2014, 4:53 pm

I am sorry if this has already been answered elsewhere but I can't seem to find it. I just downloaded Inkscape software and created a file. I am trying to import it into SCAL but nothing happens. I click import and pick the file and absolutely nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

If you saved the file as an svg, you should be able to import into Scal. Just open SCAL and import. I am not clear how you saved it so checking. Be sure it is an svg format.

Even easier, you can go to the craftedge site (SCAL) and download the inkscape plug in, install it, and then when Inkscape is open, go to Extensions> Export you will find the option to send to SCAL. That way you dont have to save the file first and import it - it will just open directly in SCAL and then you can save it there in the scut format (Scal)

I did save it as an svg but it just doesn't do anything. I will try the plugin and let you know. Thank you!

I just downloaded the plugin, did extension, export and send to SCAL, SCAL opened but it is blank. What am I doing wrong? Is something set wrong in SCAL?

Update - I was trying to do stencils so it was all text. I added a rectangular box and did the extension export thing and it worked. The rectangular box came up in SCAL but still no text. Why?

Hey cjchasse sounds like you might have left off a few steps in Inkscape......

1.) Type out your text.......then manipulate it how you like it....ie....Ungroup, move around....resize.....then once you get the text exactly the way you want it you do...
2.) Path > Object to Path
3.) Now you can either save the file as an .svg and then Import into SCAL OR you can use the SCAL Extension Plugin and send the file directly to SCAL

Thank you Penny! That worked. I've never used Inkscape, just downloaded it today so I didn't know you had to do the object to path step. Perfect, thank you so much!
