Importing layered Inkscape svg into SCAL

Importing layered Inkscape svg into SCAL

Postby Susan G. » July 4th, 2012, 9:29 pm

I finally figured how to cut my tro-fold card today but I am now on to the next question.

I have been working with layers all day and haven't been able to figure out how I import my Inkscape file that has three layers into SCAL. When I import the file, the image is not separated into layers. So I made three different files and imported them. However, the placement and spacing for the three sets of images had to be reconfigured again! There must be an easier way to do this but I didn't find it in my searches on the Internet or YouTube. Can anyone help?

Susan - are you using Scal 3 - I import layers all the time and I'm not sure what is going on. I just import the SVG and if you go to the layers menu - it will show you the different layers on the right side of the screen, just go there. I usually have to name the layers but they are there.

it also depends on how the svg was made if it goes to the layers properly.
Helping where I can when I can.

It does look like it's all stuck together.......and if your layers pallet isn't showing when you open SCAL3 you can open it by doing Windows > Layers Pallet....but I'm sure you already knew that......IF it's still "stuck" together....then select the file and do Object > Ungroup.....

Happiness is discovering the right keystroke! All I needed to do was hit the little triangle on the layers palette and my different layers showed up. duh. I am documenting the whole process for myself and future newbies by attaching a URL that explains the process step by step. http://imagesbyheatherm.wordpress.com/2 ... -scal-2-0/

Thanks for the link, Susan. I am just learning SCAL. (Or I would be if I could find some time!)
