gradient not printing correctly, hummmm

I ran across something last night, I got a new Epson 1430 and was so upset my labels were having a split across the bugs antennas. I printed and cleaned heads and was about to throw the printer out the window. Then I printed to pdf and same issue, my black outlines and the slim lines were all split like a misaligned head would do. I printed it on my old printer and same thing, I zoomed in my design and was baffled. FInally I too the gradient out and made it solid and it printed perfectly. Has anyone had the same issues?
