Saving a file in Inskcape to open in MTC

Saving a file in Inskcape to open in MTC

Postby fairwayflunkie » September 24th, 2011, 7:32 am

Hi all:

I find that I can manually trace and adjust nodes in Inskcape quite easily...I then have two layers a cut layer and a print layer. I have saved it as SVG but I can't open it in MTC...am I missing something? Of course I'm trying to simplify some print and cuts that I want to do...when I do pixel trace in MTC, way too many nodes...I find I can do it in Inskcape better...help please? :D

TIA

Hi Nancy, Can't help you with the MTC bit, but hopefully some of the others will be along soon

Did you try to OPEN it, or are you IMPORTING it as an SVG?? You can't OPEN SVGs in MTC, you have to import them. I just opened a graphic in Inkscape, saved it as a plain SVG, and then imported it into MTC and it worked fine. I lost the colors, but I have all the pieces, and a small shadow layer that I can then move to different layers to cut.

Hi Diane:

I opened a PDF in Inskape, traced it and split into two layers, the print layer and the cut layer. I then saved as SVG. I then went into MTC and tried to import, this is the message that it gives me when I try to import it:

There was a problem with an SVG you tried to import. (Imported 0 of 1 SVGs)

So would it be because you are trying to import an image - the print layer?

The one thing Dawn taught me when doing a PNC is to Embed Image first and then save - or the image won't open - could that be the problem? That option is under Extensions > Images > Embed Images. That should be done with all PNC files.

Hope that helps make it more acceptable for MTC - just a wild guess since I don't use it!

MTC can't import a strait image. It has to be applied manually as a texture. If you try and import it, it will either give you an error or lock up.
