Inkscape .47-3 to Sign Cut - No Export

Inkscape .47-3 to Sign Cut - No Export

Postby mscott821 » August 9th, 2011, 4:22 pm

I have just been setting up my new cougar 24... I have downloaded Inkscape .47.3 and SignCut from the directed place(s) and have followed the quickstart guide in the order prescribed.

I am at the point in the Quick Start where it says to open an image in Inkscape and then from the Extension Menu choose Export -> Export to SignCut. PRoblem is, I have no Export selection...?

Did it get moved since the QS manual was updated? OR did I miss something in the process?

No - it should work. Close inkscape and open up signcut. Click on help and install export plugins. Run the installer, restart inkscape and see if they are there.

If you need to be cutting something right now, you can always open SVG files in signcut.

Here is the link to Signcut for the plugin for this.

Of, course, I'm on a Mac so this had to be done for mine. Might be different for Windows.

Unfortunately, what I get is "Execution of command "c:\program file (x86)\SignCut\plugins.exe" failed (error 2: the system cannot find the file specified.)" when I attempt Re-Install Export Plugins...

When I went to the SignCut web site, I did not find anything specific to inkscape...

Is this a Windows 7 64-bit...

No - I have Windows 7 64 bit and its running fine. But I didnt have the export option when I first installed Inkscape. I had to reinstall over itself and then it worked. (at least that is what I remember). Try that and see if it appears the second time around.....

Re-install signcut over the top of itself and that should sort the problem

OK - here's the deal - saw it when attempting to re-install. Symantec Corporate Endpoint Protection 12.0 is saying that the plugins.exe file has a Trojan in it and is quarantining the file...

Is there some possibility that it could in fact be correct? I have used this AV for many years, it doesn't typically flag false positives...

I guarantee you that it is a false positive. We have know about this for several months, and Signcut even have a report on their website, see below -

SignCut & AV's

Some antivirus software falsely report part of SignCut as a trojan called Trojan.Fakealert.28556.

This is a false positive reported by a few anti virus software (there's a list below showing which AV's tend to report LiveUpdate.exe as this trojan) when SignCut contacts the server looking for updates and changes.

SignCut verifies and checks the files on our server 3 times a day with state of the art antivirus software. You can be sure there are no viruses in the files on our server. Because SignCut modifies other programs - installing plugins to allow for the export of files directly to SignCut from Illustrator, Corel and Inkscape some virus scanners flag that as a false positive. We suggest you either set your virus scanner to make an exception for SignCut or turn it off , then do your install and then turn on your virus software again.

Thought that would be the problem! I had to set it as an exception as well. I sure wish they would fix it!
