Sprint car tumbler

Sprint car tumbler

Postby kathybessey » June 29th, 2011, 9:46 pm

I made this tumbler a few weeks ago for a friend at work - her husband drives sprint cars at our local race track. I love how my car file turned out - I still need to find clear contact paper for the layering - doing it by hand is not the greatest and I can't see through the transfer tape that I have.

Kathy, that is really cool! I can't believe you hand layered it! Do you have a Walmart nearby? That's where I got my clear Contact.

Thanks Lisa and Elizabeth! I do have a Wal-mart nearby and actually thought I had purchased some clear contact paper a few weeks back only to discover it was laminate for scrap-booking, projects, etc but was in the contact paper section (in a roll, looks just like it). I have actually used it for a few things but definitely not for transferring vinyl LOL

That looks great Kathy!

I started with using Contact paper (and/or a cheaper brand). My dollar store carried it, but sometimes it was in the stationary area since it could be used for covering books. It worked, but was sometimes fussy to work with.
I now use the Greenstar CLEAR transfer tape from USCutter. I love it! It looks pricey, but the regular rolls are 100 YARDS! If you get the 'sample' rolls, they are 100 feet long and worked out to be 10.5 cents for a foot of the 12" wide. With my last order, I ordered different widths, so now I have 12" wide, 6" wide, 3" wide and 1.5" wide. It stores so much better than the contact paper and allows for ease of cutting the size I need. Also, the Greenstar vinyl is fantastic! I have scraps from a sign place, and consistently the Greenstar out cuts it in detail.

Thanks for the wonderful comments! He loved the tumbler!

I finally found some clear contact paper at Wal-Mart but want to get some clear transfer tape at some point (waiting on finances to straighten out a bit after these two surgeries). Jeannette I will check out the Greenstar clear transfer you spoke of. I have used the Greenstar vinyl and have been VERY happy with it.
