30" Mickey Mouse. Thanks Tyler!!

Postby YorkieMom » June 23rd, 2011, 9:26 pm

I am so excited about this cut. I have never cut anything larger than 12 x 12 and also had not cut anything without using a mat. I asked Tyler at the last webinar how to cut a design larger than what would fit on a mat. He very kindly gave me excellent instructions and this is the result. I am sooooo pleased with it. My grandson's first birthday party is Sat. and it's of course a Mickey Mouse theme. This design will be used on the door. Thanks sooooo much Tyler! I learned lots of new stuff and couldn't have done it without you!!

Yorkie Mom -

I would love to know all the details of how you did this. I have done only 1 over sized vinyl (last summer), and rach helped me with mine. I'd like to know how you layered your pieces, did you put up the black base first, and layered from the bottom up, or, did you layer in the reverse, from top down? Rach helped me with a technique that you sort of reverse layer the pieces in the transfer tape (mirrored) so that it is all together in the transfer tape, and then you just transfer everything in one shot. I also would like to know the width of your Mickey Mouse, is the 30" a height measurement? And when you say larger than the mat - do you mean the .mtc virtual mat?

Hi Pat!
I will do my best to answer all of your questions but right now I am getting ready to go to work. I can tell you Mickey is 30" tall and a little over 19" wide. I did layer each piece separately as I don't know how it could have been done with the way you described but it's something I would definitely like to learn. But as you said, I layered from the bottom up. In reference to "larger than the mat" I was referring to the MTC virtual mat. I positioned Mickey on the mat, re-sized, and then hid the layers I wasn't cutting. I did not of course use a mat for the actual cutting. I placed a roll of vinyl behind my Cougar and fed it thru the back. It was awesome cutting without a mat!! lol I know this probably doesn't make a lot of sense and will try to give you better answers when I get home from work. Hope this helps a little anyway.
