Penny Duncan Long Stem Roses questions

Postby Angel135612 » June 17th, 2011, 4:23 pm

Hi Penny.... I finally had a day off where I could work on your long stem roses. It only took me about 2 to 3 hours to make my first rose, since I wasn't sure what I was doing... :D
Found some wire that I had, and florist tape, so got my wire. Found some teeny tiny gold beads that I bought who knows how long ago, and didn't use for much (I seem to have that problem of buying things because I think they would be fun to play with, then don't use them for anything... LOL). I created my stamen using some regular dental floss, with the gold beads.. thought it turned out well, probably need to let the glue dry a bit more before I start to use it though. LOL

Was able to get my rose together with out too many problems, although I think I tend to use too much glue, but if I don't use much, it doesn't seem to hold. Do glue sticks get old and not work as well??? (I've had these for I don't know how many years... bought the glue and gun ages ago, but never really used it much either). But it also could have been that I didn't let my glue gun heat up enough before I started to use it.

Anyway.. on to my question....LOL

I resized the file to make a real life sized rose, and had all the parts selected to resize them proportionally, but the piece that is the green leafy thing that goes on the bottom, seems to be too large for the rose. It looks a lot larger than what you have on your roses. I'm not sure how much smaller to make it, so that it isn't so large. (Didn't want to make a bunch of roses trying to get that one part just the right size) I'm assuming that all the pieces in the file are proportional, which is why I resized them all together, but just wanted to make sure that is the case.

Hey Diane....I would just kind of take one of the "leaves" and place it over the top of one of the flower petals and make it about the same width...perhaps a wee bit smaller does that make sense???????

Thanks Penny, that does make sense... I will try that now... My first LS Rose didn't turn out too bad... but I think I need a lot more practice to get mine to look as good as yours. :D

I love it when I go to the craft stores and look at their flowers they have there and just smile cause I know I can make my own and they will look even better then those!!! ;) Know what I mean....

Well Miss Penny - I think your statement needs to be embellished a bit-
When YOU go to a craft store YOU know that the flowers YOU make will look better! :ROFLMBO: :ROFLMBO: That doesn't hold true for all of us (I have not surpassed the craft store quality - yet!) - but thanks to your help and files from you and Mary, I may get there yet!! :banghead: :ROFLMBO: :ROFLMBO:

Hey Linda...It's some aluminum wire that was given to me from work.....not sure where they got it...but I wrap it with brown floral tape...I like that color better than the yucky green they have here......if I'm doing a big flower I'll use 3 or 4 pieces of wire bunched together and wrapped with the floral tape...does that make sense???
