Finally, I can cut some intricate stuff!!

I got my SB today and spent a few hours just doing the basics--getting the feel of the machine by cutting cardstock and vinyl. I'm so pleased with how everything cuts!! I pulled out this file I'd been saving ( http://imagesbyheatherm.wordpress.com/?s=birdcage+box ) and decided to jump in with both feet. The fold lines didn't turn out that great (I used the embossing tool on the regular mat), so I still need to work on that but overall, a GREAT start! Paper is from K & Company (Que Sera Sera) and is thin but has a sheen. I added a little tealight decorated with washi tape and some shred to the inside of the box. Would make an awesome favor.

Gorgeous! You are going to love what you can do! (for score lines, I have better luck with the engraving tool, although I admit to being lazy and just cutting dashed lines with my regular blade most often!)

I have to say that is quite amazing that you have reached this point in a day! Way to go. That is a great file and you did a beautiful job.

Like Elizabeth, I get lazy and tend to just lower the pressure on the machine when I have fold lines and just score with the blade I have in. If I can find a way around changing blades I will, even though I have separate blade holders for each (yes - totally lazy and want carefree adjustments!!) :)

Again, just want to say - GREAT job!!

Thanks Ladies. It helped that I am very familiar with SCAL, cut at least weekly and studied up on the SB while waiting for it to arrive. I'm sure that I will be a bit less impressive when I try the things I've never done before...like P & C, embossing, etching & distressing. Hopefully I'll have some hair left after trying those! lol

I always put my score lines on a different layer, and then just use my normal blade and cut at a super low force of I thik 5 -7. It has always worked best for me.

Heather is a great designer and was a regular on the SCAL forum but she does have her own blog. I cut this file out of red and gave it to my doctor's receptionist, she thanks me again every time I go in there!

Awesome, Jan! I have some of Heather's files, but not that particular one. It's very nice. I can't wait to try some of Monica Bjork's files that I could never cut before :) The SB is an awesome machine and I love SCAL 3. Craftedge has kept it along the lines of ecal, and I'm happy about that.

I'm a long time fan of Monica also. Her files were at the top of my list to try when I upgraded from a Cricut to a Black Cat several years ago. My Silver Bullet handles them beautifully, as did my Cougars!
