I saw a blog where someone took a book and made the faux leather covers http://astridsartisticefforts.blogspot.com/ (see the feb 22 entry) and I wanted to give it a try. I looked up the Sheena Douglass youtube video on how to do faux leather and found a cheap composition book and gave it a go. The composition book is larger than any embossing folder I have so I took my patchwork folder from Tim Holtz and did my own patchwork. The project is easy but the drying time is what is so time consuming. I put several coats of ModPodge. It is still drying but I couldn't wait to share photo, hence some white spots that are still drying. LOL. I took chipboard and cut out the clock, fleur do lis and key. Then I took a Spare Parts label holder and put a newsprint label, did a "notes" on Word, and then glossy accents. I made the cover so that when I am finished with this notebook, I can cut the covers off and it can be cut down to a 8.5 x 5.5 size and I can use it again and Cinch it.

I really love how this turned out. I am constantly using little notebooks and compostition notebooks. I always get so bored with the normal ones and so now I will have to dress them up. LOL. The video is more for doing little books but with that patchwork folder, it worked really well for this large notebook. Thanks everyone!!!

Thanks everyone! I have been doing quite a few of these. Not only do I use alot of these notebooks but Sara, one of my crafty nieces, that it would make a good Xmas present for all the girls in the family. Us girls usually try to do something extra for all the girls. Well, this is my lagniappe.....my "little extra something". You can alos use colored inks. I've done one in a turqoise which turned out great.
