Wow! Your quilt is just lovely. The silk makes it extra special. I understand that it is a once in a lifetime project. So much work and love invested. Best wishes for the second half.

As an update, I am almost finished with the second half of the quilt and will be joining the two halves for a finish within the next week. I could have tried for today, but I am committed with my sister to help clean our mother's house - she's 81 and certainly can't do it herself and she cannot afford to pay someone to do it. One reason this project has taken so long is there is limited time in which to sew (only on weekends) and many things interfere with that limited time frame (cooking, cleaning, holidays and family). But so close now - and will post a photo when this is finally done - I promise. Sherri doesn't mind that it is totally OT and once this is finally finished, I can then experiment more with fabric cutting on the cat.

Eager to see the finished product, Pat - not sure I would have the patience to stick with one thing that long.

Your Mom is lucky to have you and your sister to help. Enjoy the time with her. We will be patiently waiting for the reveal! :)

Amazing and beautiful! They are so much work. My grandmother made a huge one which I now own. I adore it and think of her every time I look at it. I marvel at her skill, perseverance, vision, love and strength (that thing is incredibly heavy!!). Thank you for sharing and giving me another memory of my beloved gone-too-soon grandmother.

Karin - I guarantee that your grandmother's quilt is much nicer than mine. Hers was probably all hand stitched. Mine is all machine stitched, and because it is machine stitched, the "windows" don't have the same freedom of movement as a hand-stitched piece. It is more flat and less dimensional. But I did it the only way I could and still get it finished while I was alive ))::

I am on track I think for working on it tomorrow and hopefully finally get it finished. I just can't wait for the weekend..no way..

I saw this quilt in one of my craft books years ago and so loved it. I am not a quilter, don't sew, but just reading the process at the time had me awestruck. You have completed it and beautifully. Wow! That is a real legacy that you have created. Admiration abounds! And thanks for sharing it with all of us. It feels good to share in another's admirable accomplishment. :)
