Some of you know I am in the middle of this long-running project. I first began it with research back in Nov. 2011. I am finally making some headway on it. I am almost finished with the first section of 6 sections. I will never do another CW quilt in this lifetime, as it is a tremendous amount of work. Once I still the rolls down of the inner windows for this section, I will be 1/6th of the way done. The inner windows are silk!

Thanks! Just to show it isn't entirely off topic, I used the cat to cut a cardboard template, so I penciled in the square shape to be able to cut the silk. The silk is being cut with scissors, because I am too afraid of cutting the silk with a rotary cutter. I am using a paper backed fusible to be able to handle the silk (shades soft fuse - expensive but worth it).

When I need a dead-bang accurate template, the cat is the ONLY way! The machine is a big asset to me in many ways, not just with paper.

Wow, Pat! It is gorgeous!!!!! Don't worry about being off topic. I love to see what everyone is doing, whether it is totally cutter related or totally not! I am always inspired by everyone's projects. This quilt is giving me ideas for a card. Now to get it "on paper" (or on software) before it disappears.

Hi everyone:

I have been so delayed on resuming work on this project. First it was the holidays, then other stuff and life.......

But I resumed work and I am officially 1/3 of the way done. I finished a second section, and joined the two. I have 4 more sections to complete. Already working on 3rd section, and if I complete it and join it to this piece, I will then be half-done!

I hope to finish this out this year for sure!

thanks everyone. I already am at work on the third section. If very, very lucky and things work out, I might be able to join the third section next weekend and make it half-done. I learned tons doing this project.

Meanwhile, there's sunday dinner to cook (no small undertaking for 6 people - 5 of whom are all men), and prep for the week...

Hope you all have a great week coming up.

Hey everyone:

I am officially HALF done with this quilt. The photo was taken before I stitched the last row on this half. It is now all stitched and you can't really see a difference.

Currently, I am beginning the work on the other half of the quilt. Once that half is completed, then I have to join the two halves together, stitch down that row created by the join, and then I will be DONE!

I have to figure out how I am going to hang this thing when done......

Love,

Pat

Thanks everyone. I'll post again when the two halves are joined. This quilt has been an amazing test of my endurance. I wanted for over 20 years to do a cathedral window quilt. I am finally getting to it!!!! The president of my local quilting guild has been waiting a couple of years for me to finish, so I can enter this in the yearly quilt show. Because they are so much work, a cathedral window - especially at this size - is pretty rare. It is rarer still to have silk as the medium. Finishing a quilt is almost like childbirth, this is the analogy I hear most often among women in the guild. So much work, but worth it in the end for a beautiful result.
