ON a roll..........

ON a roll..........

Postby pigtailpat » July 27th, 2013, 2:55 pm

Sorry - this isn't paper, but I had to post. Got my mini-project quilt substantially done - the top is all done. Now I have to decide on backing and batting to do the quilting part...........

I never would have thought black in a quilt can be pretty.........

Actually Sherri - no not this project. However, one of the things I really wanted to accomplish by getting this top done and in the can, is because I wanted the leftover black fabric for another purpose. I want to cut the scales of justice using the cat on this black fabric (a project for my son). I couldn't attempt it knowing I needed the fabric for this quilt. So now that it is done, I will be turning to the cat and fabric very, very soon, because I have enough for the scales of justice I wanted to do. I also have enough scraps to do the test cutting and find out exactly what it takes to cut this fabric on the cat. And you know me, I have to do all the experiments (i.e. method of stabilization of the fabric - whether heavy starch alone is enough - whether I freezer/parchment paper would work - whether I need a fusible stabilizer etc.). I also have to determine exactly how large of an image I want. I promise you - and the forum here is my witness - when this project is completed, or at least cut to my satisfaction - I will post a photo and give you the full res image for posting on your website. Sometimes my projects drag on and on, but I do get done. Since I now have the extra sticky mat from you, I have the tools I need )))::

The scales of justice are going to be such a wonderful and meaningful gift for your son. Yes you have witnesses, but more than that you have all of us eager to see what you create as I know, from all of your other quilting projects, that it will be outstanding. Cannot wait to see it! (no pressure though!!)

Thanks everyone - you're all so encouraging. I even test cut some of the scraps I had last night (used the cat with no computer - just used that lovely test button), and think I managed to get settings at least started. That extra sticky mat is crucial, and so glad I got mine. What I have to do to fully roll out the other project is to cut the scales in various different sizes in paper first, to see what size I want and what will fit the extra sticky mat. Unfortunately, I am not blessed with the ability to "see" vector images for what they will be in real life - I need to physically cut, see, and place to determine what I want. But hey, that gives me more experience!
