Flowers - licked it at last!

Flowers - licked it at last!

Postby pigtailpat » July 21st, 2013, 8:57 pm

I literally finished this morning, right before I had to leave for my sister's surprise party. So I could not upload earlier (just got back). I did have the presence of mind to snap a photo to show to you lovely people, especially Penny Duncan.

The coffee filters were painted with gallery glass. I just love the effect. On the leaves, I got daring, and sprinkled dazzling diamonds (a stampin' up product) over them as they were drying.

This is not the first time trying flowers. I have tried flowers on and off for YEARS, never happy with any of my results. Then, I read about Penny's idea regarding using coffee filters for the fabric blade hop/challenge. Intrigued, I decided I HAD to try again. Boy, I am really happy with how it turned out. It became the perfect gift for my sister, who has no decoration in terms of flowers for her house. Now that I know I can do it, I can see lots of uses for coffee filter flowers. I will have to try more of Penny's files for this.

Penny - THANKS a ton for brainstorming and coming up with this idea for the fabric blade hop/challenge. It has been a great enlightening thing for me.

I have made some of Pennys roses out of watercolor paper, but haven't tried the coffee filters yet... after seeing what you have done, I am going to HAVE to try using coffee filters. Those look beautiful!!!!!!

Gosh thanks everyone for the kind words. I wanted to wait to see what penny thinks, but perhaps she's busy - and I felt I should acknowledge all this wonderful input.

If I can do this, anyone can!

Penny - thanks! When I have time, I want to explore more of your flower files for work with coffee filters. The cana lily is definitely something I am interested in.

Meanwhile, I do have to go back to some stitching, and soon I have to cut my first applique - I took a detour down the coffee filter path - and so glad I did!

Question - Penny and others - what kind of flowers are good for christmas table arrangements? I know of course about poinsettias, but I am just not too wild about them - I have no idea why. They just don't appeal to me. The lily is more of an Easter item, so I am wondering about ideas for this - for a future project when I have much more time.....

The possibilities that the coffee filter idea has introduced to me is just amazing for sure!

Penny made a BEAUTIFUL Christmas rose that I used for a card last year - it's lovely. Trying to think of what else I see at Christmas time - a lot of poinsettias!! Hmmmm - holly isn't really a flower. I love magnolias at Christmas time too - they are really pretty with gold accents......

I would surely be interested in that christmas rose gigi - a photo of it. When penny eventually comes back to this thread, she'll probably point us to where that christmas rose is on her site. In doing some research, I came across a flower similar to a cala lilly, but not quite, called Amaryllis - are those a christmas flower? And I wonder if Penny is up to designing one? I have no ability to design what she did with the rose I used for my sister. It's pretty awesome that she could design the file itself. That is to totally way beyond my means. I tried to explain to my family is that all I did is take someone else's talent and execute it - but they really don't understand what plotter cutting it about.

I consider Penny the supreme talent when it comes to flowers. Her interpretation is so amazing. Thinking about the coffee filter possibilities is SO distracting for me. For once I can hardly keep my mind on the sewing and quilting.
