My take on PDC Roses

My take on PDC Roses

Postby Angel135612 » June 1st, 2011, 2:31 pm

I had the day off today and I have been playing around with Penny Duncan's Rose file... and made a few of them. For first attempts, I think they turned out pretty well. Not sure what I'm going to use them for, I just wanted to try them.
I made my own Shimmer mists, and instead of spraying it on my paper, I painted it on. I think that uses a lot less of the mixture as it doesn't go "everywhere" and so it should last longer. I do think I need to add more of the Perfect Pearls or Pearl Ex to my mix, but I'm still playing around with the amounts.
I filled up a sheet with all the designs, and cut out as many as I could fit. I haven't painted them all or made them into flowers yet, but now I have them cut and ready to "make" when I have more time. I also want to see just how small I am able to make them... LOL I think I remember someone (Maxine or maybe Z) that made some that were no more than an inch across when complete. I am definitely going to have to try some of her other flowers, this was a lot of fun, and I don't know why I was so afraid of trying them... not nearly as hard as I thought it would be... but then that seems to be true for a lot of things...( I can remember being afraid to try vinyl and found it was a lot easier than I thought it would be).

I attached a close up of one of the roses... I love how this turned out.

Angel - I didn't have the watercolor paper, I've got to get some. These look great! You did a wonderful job on them.

Thank you Retta. Penny mentioned in another post that when she made the tutorial, she used the watercolor paper, but now she just uses the Georgia Pacific 110# card stock from Walmart, and they still turn out great... so no need to wait until you can get watercolor paper... just use a 110# cardstock.

I think next I'm going to try using some colored cardstock and see how they turn out, over coloring my own. OR better yet, taking a "texture" and print out my own paper, and see what I can come up with... that could prove interesting.

actually - I did them with textured card stock. I did a floral card under masterpieces. It was fun. I would like to try the watercolor for the effect. Have fun, I sure did!

They are so lovely. It must be so much more rewarding than buying one ready made.

Kathy,
If I can do it, YOU can do it... it was a lot easier than I thought it would be... and I wasn't sure I would like the way mine turned out.... but then I figured not all roses are "perfect" so mine don't have to be either.
