As you all know, I have asked a ton of questions, done a ton of research and hopefully have not missed anything while trying to decide on what to replace my Cricut with..It was a real back and forth for so many reasons. I'm still not clear about using SCAl with the MAC or just use it on the PC and not sure how long blades last so I know how many to get up front, but, through your kindness, generosity of time and answering all of my questions....I've made my decision.....drum roll please.....I'm going to get a..... Silver Bullet!

I can't order it for a few weeks and I'll need to talk to Sherri first.. plus, I have to carve a path in the crafty crap to make room for it
Thank you so much everyone.. You are the BEST!

CONGRATS!!! You will love it as much as we love ours! It is truly an awesome machine. I had so much fun playing with mine this weekend. I cleaned out my craft area during the latter part of the week because we had sporadic internet and satellite....I guess because of storns and stuff, but it gave me the excuse to finally do some reorganizing. I have a terrible habit of buying things and throwing it into the first empty or somewhat empty bin closest to me. And then there is the cleanup after crafting. Needless to say, I had stuff scattered. So clean up!!!! The sooner you get it clean, the sooner you can get your SB!!!

You will not regret your decision. Welcome to the family!

As far as how long blades last, it is really very subjective. It depends what you are cutting, how much you are cutting, how deep the cuts are etc. I always keep a couple extra on hand just in case something happens - so I have time to reorder and still work on projects!!

I'll be cutting primarily a variety of fabrics from cotton to felt to wool and also some acrylics... after that just the basics, paper & cardstock.

And yes, I'm excited. I can't stop thinking of things to do with 'my' cutter and I haven't even ordered it yet.

To Sherri and Dawn: I know that you already know this, but coming from me, who only had limited experience with a Cricut, and did not know one single person on this or the MTC forum.. so there is no bias...I have to say that you have the absolute best groupies ever! They sing your praises on and off this forum, they love you both and stand behind you and your products. And that had a big impact on making my decision. Now I can't wait to be your grouping too!

We do love them but it is well deserved. They do everything for us! And they give us the best machine to boot. But I have to say that when I was looking at purchasing a new machine, it was their customer service that won me over.

Oops, that should have said that I'd be your GROUPIE too, not grouping.. I guess I'm more excited than I thought!

Yes you can use them both and just use whichever one will work best for the particular thing you are doing.

Thanks Elizabeth. I just wanted to be sure... on one of the forums or somewhere I saw that 'you' had to have one program talk to the other before sending to cut..which if it was the case, I'd want the programs both on the same computer vs one on MAC and one on PC.

MTC and Scal dont need to talk to each other. If you are designing in Corel Draw or Illustrator and need SCAL to cut, then yes, you need them on the computer. But those two programs (MTC, SCAL) alone are fine split up as they can design and cut.

Hope that helps!

I generally use Photoshop or Illustrator to design.

If you have Scal Pro there is a plug in that sends what you have done in Illustrator straight to SCAL. You can also save as an svg and then import into either program, so there are lots of options.
