Is there a chart for paper setting averages?

Is there a chart for paper setting averages?

Postby JensMom » April 17th, 2013, 9:17 am

I looked through the forum and couldn't find it and if it is here please forgive. I wanted to see if there was a chart of average settings for different types of materials? I am struggling with this and need some starting points, especially for vellum. Thanks

This is a list I did about a year or so ago.......it was notes that I made as I played with mediums........it's a starting point at least but I will say I've since found better settings that work for me as I play more....but they could at least give you some guidance perhaps...

Thank you Penny still after all these years I sometimes have troubles with the settings. Especially if I haven't cut for awhile. It will be great to have a starting point.

Thank you so much!!! Also, do you have the MTC calibration file that Tyler did? I found the calibration instructions on the learning center but it required some sort of black MTC file that is not available and there is no link for it. Only a circus file.

Didn't see this answered. I use the click blade on 1 and cut vellum at 50. That being said, there are a lot of different vellum weights - this is for the regular lightweight vellum. I have found that I have to go up in force for vellum, I think because of the "crispness" of it - for lack of a better word!

Hope that helps!

Gigi Does Vellum have a lot of fibers in it. More like a linen paper would over normal cardstock

It doesn't appear fibrous to me - but there is something in it - almost like a small amount of plastic - that makes almost crack when you crease it (sometimes it does depending on the weight). I love vellum - have it in every weight and color just about, but it can be a bit challenging to get the right force.

Not sure that is the best answer..... but it's all I have!! LOL

I don't cut very much vellum, but I do know that the different ones I have vary widely in their "crispness" and when I have cut them it's more of a trial and error to get the best cut. Some feel like they have more of an "elastic-y plastic" to them and some feel more like a crisply starched paper...not that what I just said helps any Image

It can be a challenge, but at least this gives me a start. What I would really like to do is to emboss it as well. I wonder how well embossing an entire piece of cardstock would do?

Honestly........not all that well....unless it's thin cardstock....you can try lightly spritzing with water before you do the embossing.....
