blackat 24' cougar and CS5

Postby Maggi » September 23rd, 2012, 1:33 am

Hi everyone. I want to buy the blackat 24' cougar. I am using CS5 for my designing, is it compatible with this machine?
Do you think this is the best machine? I was looking at the pazzles before I found the cougar?
Thanks.

Hello

Here is a link to Dawn's uk website which has this chart to show comparisons - it hasnt been updated to include the silver bullet yet but it may give you a good starting point

http://www.thymegraphics.co.uk/Thyme%20 ... rison.html
I have had both and much prefer my 18" cat for the speed and the ability to cut/engrave/emboss etc - I would buy the 24" if I had the room - however I am going to upgrade to the silver bullet for the increase in speed

The machines need vector files to cut from so you will need to export/save as an SVG file from CS5 to be able to cut the file
Hope this helps

Hi Maggi,
You can save your Illustrator files as svg and then open them in the software to cut them.
The best machine is the new Silver Bullet, it has all the features of the Cougar, plus more. It is also faster, quieter and smoother

Actually. There is a plug in to send to Signcut from Illustrator 5. I believe there is one coming for SCAL also.

You can use AI to create your designs, but you need another software, either Signcut or SCAL to send the information to your cutter.
The Cougars are very good machines, and there is someone here on the board that is selling her 24 inch Cougar because she upgraded to the Silver Bullet, so you can get a great deal on a slightly used machine. viewtopic.php?f=32&t=3035
If you want a machine you can grow into, and be able to do more than just cut paper, you can't go wrong with the Cougar line of machines.

Hi Maggie, I use CS5 and CS6. They work great, and yes there is a plugin to export to signcut from CS5. I had asked Brandon to write a script to export to SCAL, but I know it isn't ready yet. But it isn't a problem because all you have to do is open scal, one extra step. I haven't had any problems with my svg's in any of the software. Sign cut, SCAL or MTC. And if you can get a Silver Bullet it is awesome. I just finished doing a childrens birthday party for a friend, The theme is super hero's. I made 15 spidermen mask's the one layer was a web the diameter of the web was about 8" with super fine web lines. I cut them out at a velocity (speed) of 700. No problem and that was on accident. I had cut the background circle that fast and forgot to change the speed back slower. Once I saw this machine could do this bam, I kept it going. In fact I cut different things all day yesterday between 600 and 700 speed. No problems at all.

Maggi I have the pazzles Inspiration and the black cat cougar and the Silver Bullet I can tell you that if you want force and speed the silver bullet is the best for force and speed. The pazzles Inspiration is a WONDERFUL machine and I love it. When I go to a crop I take it because it is light and smaller than my other machines. However it is not in the same ballpark as the cougar. The cougar and the silver bullet exceed its abilities by a great margin. If your not planning to cut heavy things you could probably get by with the pazzles. I do love the pazzles software but it took me a long time to learn it. I wish the Silver Bullet and The cougar machines had their own software but other than that there is NO comparison. I would be happy to answer any questions you have I have a lot of experience with my pazzles. Lesa

Thank you all, this is very helpful. The shop were I was, is getting the pro (I assume it is the silver bullet, in 2 weeks time) and they suggest that I buy it since it is not that much more. My hubby is willing to pay, so I am in luck.

Lucky girl. You will love it. I love both of mine. And hubby said I didn't have to sell my first one. I get to keep them both. Just keep asking any questions you might have. There are a lot of really smart people here.

Maggi,

Specifically, I hope it's the Silver Bullet Professional, and that you are dealling with Dawn of Thyme Graphics found here: http://www.thymegraphics.co.uk/

There is a competitor who carries a machine under the Black Cat name and touting a new 'Pro' machine, but unfortunately, any reputation he may have for customer service was built by Dawn and Sherri who are no longer affiliated with him in any way... just a head's up to pay attention to who you're dealing with.

*Edited to add: Congrats on the new machine! :D

I did contact the store to ask about import cost etc. After a thorough research I think I am going with the Silver Bullet Pro.
Thanks for all your advice. Now the waiting part is the worst, I am not a very patient person.

I think you made a wise decision the Pazzles Inspiration is an awesome machine but you would probably eventually want a stronger machine and why not just go for the best you can to begin with? I would if I were you.
