Help with rhinestone settings

Help with rhinestone settings

Postby cbauer50 » August 9th, 2012, 2:48 pm

I have some rhinestone material (not sure what it's called - it's green and kind of "foamy). I want to cut some rhinestone transfers.

Not sure where to start as far as settings.

What pressure, speed, multi-cut, etc? (I'm using MTC - but that shouldn't make much difference).

What blade? bladeholder?

I also have the transfer tape stuff - but can you use any transfer tape or do you have to use a special transfer tape for rhinestones?

Thanks for any help.

You will need to use the test cut for the settings.
I use the Detail blade holder and a 60 degree blade, but mine is not foamy stuff.
You need a heat resistant transfer tape

Not Dawn / Thyme, but here is some info: http://www.bren.org/matguide.htm (I haven't ever bought from here, they just seemed to have nice, organized information)

This YouTube video compares the difference between the sandblast masking material and the rhinestone material: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_SFAP7R-rQ

Its a sndblast vinyl, but there are different thicknesses. I buy it from my supplier here in the UK in 100 meter rolls

From me - lol!
Best thing to do is to look online, but watch the quality, some that seem cheap are - because the quality is poor

Doesn't really matter the quality to me, they are to play around with first. Gonna make some for family (small kids) that will probably get worn once or twice anyway...LOL

In that case definitely online and just go with the cheapest you can find - maybe take a look on Ebay

For kid's shirts, gramof8 has used holographic vinyl (heat-transfer I think) rather than rhinestones... You still get the sparkle and bling without worrying about any falling off and escpecially not worrying about lead content if they eat them. ;)

You definitely want to try to avoid using rhinestones on anything for children under 12--especially if selling it--because of the lead content. By law (CPSIA, which I believe went into effect this past February) bans the use of rhinestones for anything marketed to children (defined as under 12).

The shirts that gramof8 did with the holographic and glitter vinyl really looked great, and they fall within the safety guidelines.

If you are looking for the best stones for those OVER age 12--I've read recently that the nicest are coming out of Korea.

I have bought Rhinestones from Specialty Graphics, they are the cheapest I have found so far and very good to work with. The company that is.
