Blade hits side of Cougar????

Blade hits side of Cougar????

Postby scrappinsue » July 30th, 2012, 4:52 pm

This is the first time I am trying to cut with my Cougar.... It makes a bump, thump sound when you turn it on...Is that normal? also when it sets, it hits the side of the machine fairly hard with the blade holder screw head... Is that normal?

Thanks just want to make sure before I proceed.... :D

no it should not bang on the right side. Is the screw for the holder screwed in tightly?
Tyler Thyme What else can you both suggest .

Definitely should not be hitting the side
Try a factory reset.
Also what software are you using? Some allows you to cut off the mat so make sure you don't have anything lurking in the bottom right corner.
Get back to us with the results of that and then we can take it further

Glad you got it working!

I was also going to suggest making sure that your clamp screw (the big silver screw that tightens to hold the blade holder) is tight. If it is loose and sticking out, it can hit against the side as well.

I learned something new tonite. I didn't have the screw on my blade holder tightened in and when I turned the machine on it went bang bang.

A thump when you turn the Cougar on is not unusual, mine often does it

Well, when I turned it back on this morning, it hits the side of the machine again. Will I have to reset everytime I let it sit for awhile???

Mine makes that sound also. It was a little unsettling at first but now that I know it's normal I listen for it like the little beep my computer makes when I first turn it on. It just lets me know "all is fine" lol

You can take a look at the sensors, but very careful and gentle when you do so.
Open the lid and you will see the mini circuit board on top.
Undo the two screws that are in front of the words Knife and LED.
Lift the board up and turn over.
You will now see two small blocks of black plastic.
Are these parallel with the edge of the board?
If they are not then gently twist them back into the correct position.
These blocks contain two very fine wires which are the sensors to stop the carriage hitting the sides, if they are out of position then they don't work.

Wow, I feel much better now. This same thing happened to me the first time I turned the Cougar on and it freaked me out. It only happened one time after that when I pressed the panic button in the back because it was not cutting where I thought it was going to cut. Thank goodness it hasn't happened since then, but I'll know what to look for if it does!
